Back Story - Cynthia L Sperko Photography

Want to stay connected?

My Name is Cynthia L Sperko

Raised Roman Catholic, I spent a small part of my childhood in Saint Clair Shores Michigan, then in the suburbs outside of Detroit. I was baptized at Saint Joan of Arc. The hardest part of my childhood was losing my mother when I was 9 years old. The one person I loved so much was now with the Lord.

Four years later, my dad married a woman with three kids of her own. A family of 2 adults and 6 kids we had back then. I was in grade eight when they met and in tenth grade when they married. During this time the Lord wasn't in my heart and I had no one but myself to blame for that. My teenage years were a little rough. One thing lead to another and I was sent to a boarding school in Ohio.

Long story short, the school didn't work out very well, but through life's many challenges, I passed my GED,  and received a two year full scholarship  at Thaddeus Stevens State School of Technology. My trade - Commercial Baking.

I also came back to the Catholic Church. I now wish I never stopped attending Mass. I have been attending Church at Mary, Mother of the Church since 1996! (I am a member of MMOC. Just not sure when it was official.)

The photography bug bit me while attending Stevens and initially, it blossomed into a short career of weddings, and portraits. I purchased a DSLR in 2006 and learned all I could about the camera, composition, etc.

Since 2011, my creativity blossomed into the wonderful world of steam locomotives and fine art landscape photography.

The vintage railroad scene happened while on board the Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad's Photographer's Special! This railroad adventure surprisingly captured my inner spirit  in a way that I didn't see coming.

I think of my photography as a gift, a talent given to me by God. I am grateful for this amazing present , as well as, to share it with you!
